The interesting thing is tar and cpio works perfectly with the same tape and tape drive

fbackup syntax is okie and I tried backup from within SAM as well.I tried different DDS2 tapes.
session began on Mon jan 3

write error at beginning of volume
enter ctrlY ctrl E ctrl O... when volume is ready on /dev/rmt/c2t4d0BEST

Re: fbackup errpr with DDS2
thanks that looks like the issue.
but my drive is DDS2 and not DLT.
So for DDS what would be the device specifications to be used in mksf
and the driver used is I believe is "stape2 "

Re: fbackup errpr with DDS2
but with the custom device created with mksf, even tar doesnt work.it gives device not found error.
the only device file which seems to work is density "BEST"
infact the drive is DDS1-archive python A28454
I tried to make device with mksf with density DDS1 but that wont work either
any furhter clue?

Re: fbackup errpr with DDS2
I think we are having a hardware / OS compatibility issue over here. Do not think this hardware would work.
Hope this helps.

Re: fbackup errpr with DDS2
/dev/rmt has c2t4d0BEST 205(major) 0x024000 ( minor)
205 belongs to stape driver
ibelieve hardware is configured okie.issue is fbackup interfacing with stape driver.
tar and cpio and pax runs fine.
i tried with several DDS1 60m tape catridges
thanks for your time

Re: fbackup errpr with DDS2
cd /dev
mknod rmt/Foo c 205 0x024003
mknod rmt/Foon c 205 0x024043
Does that work with fbackup?
