fbackup fails with : WRITE ERROR while writing data record, at media record
I have an L2000 running 11.11 with an HP DLT 8000 tape drive.

fbackup(1002): Backup did not complete : Reader or Writer process exit
a previous fbackup failed with same errors at a different media record on a zipped database file. Moving the file out of the filesystem failed fbackup on another file and another record.
We have another DLT8000 that when we replace it the fbackup works fine using same cable and same terminator. so we replaced the tape drive 3 times now and we still get such write errors.
You're help is much appreciated since we're out of ideas.
thanks in advance

Re: fbackup fails with : WRITE ERROR while writing data record, at media record
This is a hardware failure -- nothing is wrong with fbackup. What else is on the same I/O card? You have one drive that is good -- do you have another computer to try the failed drives? What about the media? Have you tried new tapes? Is the environment excessively hot or humid?

Re: fbackup fails with : WRITE ERROR while writing data record, at media record
It sounds like a hardware error, did you check var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for errors ?.
Also you could try a remote fbackup that would solve your problem. I think it takes more time to complete a remote fbackup but you could try it.
