fbackup IBM LTO2
We replace our HP Ultrium 460 LTO2 tape with an IBM 3580 LTO 2 tape and suddenly the fbackup doesn’t work.
Error message is:
“The outfile /dev/rmt/4m is not a valid device file for backup.”
The tar command does works.
Patches for LTO errors are installed.
After the reboot the device file of the IBM 3580 is installed.
Server RP54XX
OS HPUX 11.11i
Thanks for help.
Helmut

Re: fbackup IBM LTO2
Does the tape has another SCSI ID?
ioscan -fnC tape
insf -e
ioscan -funC tape (can you post this output)

Re: fbackup IBM LTO2
Since you replaced the tape drive with a different brand, I would suggest running rmsf against the original device files to completely remove them from the system, then run insf -e to create new device files fpr the new drive.
I have had tp do the above porcedure when a tape drive was not recognized

Re: fbackup IBM LTO2
Hmm, have you installed the atdd driver from IBM?
I believe you would need this to be able to use the drive correctly.
Contact IBM for this software
