fbackup on DLT8000 : problem with deice file

Yet always the same question about fbackup.
I've connected a Compaq DLT8000 which is well identified and configured by the system.
I can use it with the tar command without any probem.
But when I want to use the fbackup command, I got this message :
output file /dev/rmt/2m is not a valid device file for backup.

I've tried all the suggestions proposed for the same question, but did'nt got any good way to solve it !

Thanks for your help

Re: fbackup on DLT8000 : problem with deice file

Youre trying to use a Compaq DLT8000 on an HP ? good luck.

You need an HP DLT, or one with HP firmware on, as HP complicated backup commands like fbackup and Omniback expect this HP firmware to talk to the drive 100%. Simpy commands like tar will work ok.

No matter who makes the drive, when you do an ioscan -fknCtape is should list the DLT as;

HP <7980s or DLT8000>, not compaq
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

I've already installed PHKL_23790 which supersedes PHKL_22856

Re: fbackup on DLT8000 : problem with deice file

Hello Pierre,

I have had this same problem before, but with a DEC DLT drive. No amount of patching solved the problem, but a HP DLT drive did.

Usually, HP firmware is everything. And like you said, "Don't worry, be HP".

Good Luck,
Curt
