Re: fbackup warning message

Hi,

I wish HP could change the "WARNING" to "INFORMATION" regaring the message 'unable to read a volume header'.

This is only an informational message. If you use it again, you will get a message "this volume has been used 1 time". It will help you determine how many times you used the tape before one of the nice things about fbackup utility.

Re: fbackup warning message

This is a normal message which basically indicates that the tape your using is not in fbackup format and that it is either new or was in a different format before.
The "WARNING" is just is just a message and should be ignored in this instance.

You can see all fbackup messages here:

# strings /usr/lib/nls/C/fbackup.cat

Re: fbackup warning message

Hi,
Whenever u take a backup using fbackup it checks for the volume header information on the media and if it finds any volume header it informs you with how many times you have already used the media for taking backup using fbackup. If it not finds any volume header it informs you with "WARNING: unable to read a volume header" this is the case when u r using the media first time for taking backup using fbackup.

Does it affect backup data or something?

Re: fbackup warning message

No, it does not effect the integrity of your backup. Your backup is fine.

Re: fbackup warning message

No not at all. If the tapes was used previously in fbackup format, then a message would have appeared that the tape had been used previously as a fbackup tape and how many times it had been used. You will get the warning messages when using new tapes.
There is nothing to worry about in this case, as long as you know that the tape you have used can be used.

"Always physically label tapes" and the format used.

Re: fbackup warning message

fbackup(3205): WARNING: unable to read a volume header
the above message could be ignored because your backup completed successfully actually, the message tells you that you use a new tape.
