Fileset 999 reference free inode

We have just upgraded our boxes to 11.i from 11.0. We use an EMC symmetrix. We split the BCV's and mount the filesystems on a 11.0 L Class box to back the filesystems up. Before we upgraded, this did not require a FSCK. Now I have to "fsck -y -o full" in order to fix the file systems to work. I have checked the "production" file systems and they run the fsck with no options fine. Has anyone encountered this problem?

I wonder if it is related to the newer version of jfs in 11i (4.0)?

Do a vxupgrade on your filesystems, without any options, and it will display the jfs version number.

Of course the file system is going to need an fsck, but as you say a 'full' check shouldn't be necessary - the intent log replay should suffice.

Firstly, make sure the file system is not mounted with the 'nolog' option on the 11i system.

Secondly, get the 11.0 system patched right up to date vxfs wise. There's probably a whole bunch of fixes on the 11i system and you want to make sure both systems are running relatively similar vxfs code.

In general I would be a little nervous mounting an 11i file system on a 11.0 host, so if you can, update both systems to 11i. Not that I don't think it should work, it just makes me nervous.
