Filesystem
I know / (root) filesystem can HFS or VxFS; but what about /stand. To my understanding it should be HFS becuase it has the Kernel and all bootable parameters.
Can anyone have any inputs.
Thanks

Re: Filesystem
The kernel is loaded before the / filesystem is mounted.
Later,

Re: Filesystem
The /stand filesystem must be HFS in order for the loader to find the kernel.

Re: Filesystem
If you are running HP-UX 11.20 (11i verion 1.5), then you *can* boot from a VxFS /stand filesystem. That is, /stand *can* be VxFS for this release. HP-UX 11.20 is for the new Itanium processors.

Re: Filesystem
With the exception of the new Itanium release, /stand must be HFS because that is all the boot firmware understands. To allow booting from VxFS, HP would have to the firmware on many, many old machines.
Some of the other unix versions even had a grater restriction in that the bootfilesystem
could not even have directories. /stand was required to be a flat filesystem.
