But i hope that the nis domain name is wrong which is with me i know the server name.

does some one know how to find domain name from nis server.

rpcinfo shows that all the services are ok.

Any ideas how to find Domain NAme of a server thru port or any other utility.

My remote part is not available right now to get the info.

Re: Find NIS domain name

You can not do this unless your using remsh, rexec or logged in locally.

domain name browsing is insecure and belongs in Windows world. NIS is already insecure so this functionality was never built in as it would be deemed suicide.

Hi,

with 'ypwhich' you should get your NIS server.

Re: Find NIS domain name

Ravi, i think it's:

# domainname (not domain)

Sudhakar, check the /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs file and check for NIS_DOMAIN variable. That will tell you the current domainname set. Actually the command uses getdomainname() function call.

Re: Find NIS domain name

If you read the question, he wants to know a way to do this remotely through the network, not locally. Like "Browsing a MS network".

It's not possible remotely.

Re: Find NIS domain name

Hi again,

the domain name should be in
/etc/rc.config.d/nameserv
set as NIS_DOMAIN=...

Re: Find NIS domain name

Hi Guys,

i wanted to know the domainname given the server name and port open.

Actually "Shannon Petry" has understood correctly and seems it is not possible.

Does some one know if we can atleast trouble shoot like SMTP i.e. open port and give some commands to know if server is really operational.

Thanks Guys

Shannon Petry gets fully because he was relevant to the question.
