Re: First_day@Forum _Required Security knowHow

Hi unixLife,

Welcome to the Forums.

To TRY and answer your questions:

1) That depends on what version you want to run and what your budget is. I have gotten HP-UX 11iv2 (11.23) to run on an HP-UX workstation even though it is not "officially" supported. If you want to run HP-UX 11iv3 (11.31) then you need to look at the supported systems list VERY closely as it is VERY picky about what it will and will not run on.

Check E-bay for servers or workstations that may fit your budget.

2) You will find some similar commands in HP-UX as Solaris, but there will be some differences. Here is a good cross-reference for similar commands across different Unix varieties:
http://bhami.com/rosetta.html
http://bhami.com/unix-rosetta.pdf - PDF version

3) For HP-UX documentation, a good place to ALWAYS start is:

http://docs.hp.com

All sub-topics you mention should be covered somewhere in the docs.

4) All I can say is, not here. I don't know where you would post something like that.

Welcome to the Forums..

1-2 Patrick has covered.

3. Here's a nice url - and you may come to recognize the name too if you hang around the forums for awhile...

4. HP offers classes. The never overcrowd them and the teachers are great. You can attend one or maybe even pay for a remote online training (RAIL). Just head over to Education and look around.

Rita
