FORCE keyword make command for HP-UX- help!

The FORCE keyword or placeholder is used in makefiles for many programs, but it appears that HP-UX's make does not recognize the keyword. We were originally able to bypass this issue and succesfully compile batch using GNU make, but we need to find a permanent solution to this issue that is acceptable. IS there a version of 'make' in HP-UX (version 11.11) that supports the FORCE keyword? This does appear to be supported in GNU and in Sun/Solaris. Thanks to all.

Gnu's make will be around a lot longer than HPux.

Thank you for your assistance. However my problem is that the organization that I am with does not allow me to use GNU/opensource.

Have you got a HP-UX ANSI/C compiler installed?
(I am not a 'C' programmer) but the standard C compiler that comes with the OS has virtually zero in it, thats why you need to purchase ANSI/C or C++

Michael,

Thank you for your reply. We have the HP aC++ compiler but it does not appear to have 'make'. In addition to that we have the ANSCI C compiler that comes with HP-UX 11.11.

I love those fights. Ask them this:

Why do they have unix? Most of unix is open source. perl, apache, any bsd utility, samba, netscape, bind, dns, yp, sendmail, lsof, HTML, XML, PHP, SSL, SLIP, emacs, awk, sed, expect, tcl/tk, mysql, gnome, snort, sniff, snprintf, gzip, gunzip, and the thousands of other pieces.
