forced NIS password change every login after fresh install
I just installed a fresh copy of HP-UX onto a workstation, which I have done on this same one several times before (it's a testbed system). The last install seemed to go fine, until when I log into CDE it says my password has expired, and lets me change it on the NIS server. It does this every time. What is causing this error?
The day is almost gone and I've checked to make sure there is the +::(etc) at the end of passwd, and have tried several different logins and passwords. Has anyone else expereinced this? Thanks!

Re: forced NIS password change every login after fresh install
Login as root and try the following:
modprpw -m lftm=0,expwarn=0 user_name
modprpw is used to modify a users NIS password policy. This particular command sets user user_name's password to not expire and will not show a warning screen. I don't know if this is exactly what you were looking for, but it is a step in the right direction.
Good Luck,
Jason V.

Re: forced NIS password change every login after fresh install
I found the problem, I should have figured it ou earlier. The time on the system was set to 1970. So, we forced expired passwords, it thought we hadn't changed our passwords in 31 years!

Sometimes it ends up being something so easy yet not what you think it is. :-)
Good Luck,
