Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Hi All,

You will experience service disruption this weekend while accessing the ITRC Forums due to a scheduled software upgrade and site maintenance. The forums will not be available from Sept 19th 2003 20:00 EDT until Sept 21st 18:00 EDT. We apologize for any inconvenience. The site will be made available at the earliest possible time once the maintenance is complete.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time of unavailability.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Dan,

Is this upgrade a behind the scenes type of thing, or will there be some obvious to us when we access next week? Anything on Pete's wish list getting implemented?

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Hi Patrick,

There is some behind the scenes maintenance going on along with an upgrade. If all goes well, we'll be able to deploy a few enhancements. I'll let everyone know more on Sunday as to what we were able to get to.

Thanks,
Dan

From what I've seen thus far, visually, it looks pretty nice.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Hey Dan,

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So far I really like what I see.

I love the posting date and the last reply date. I like the borders around everything. I especially the requirement to select a category for a new post and if you don't select one, you get told to.

OK. I tried posting the above with Opera and it didn't work. Also, the font when using MS IE seems to be awfully small.

Hmmm.....The preview is a good feature, but it appears that ANY/ALL spaces, including blank lines between paragraphs are now deleted. Not necessarily good.

Hopefully there are still some things left to do today?

Many kudos to you and the Forums development team!

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Dan,

I join Patrick in hoping the spaces and blank lines return. I think it enhances readability and is esthetically pleasing, to have a little "white space" here and there.

Overall, great job with the upgrade! Hope you get some comp time for these weekend hours.

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Hi Dan,

Love what I see so far, columns, reply numbers, dates, add to favourites .... One thing, the 'Author' column I think could ne a little wider. The name looks a little cramped. Overall good job!

Cheers

Hi there.
Do you really have to turn upside down every time you change something ?

Good ideas by the way.

Bruno, thanks. We are correcting this problem now. It appears as though a user with no points "inherits" the hat of previous poster. This will be cleared up soon.

Thanks,

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Dan,

what has happened to the ITRC Forums?

For the last couple of days I haven't been able to get access to the forums.
(my whereabouts are Berlin, Germany)

And though today was the first time I could access ITRC Forums again I still get nothing displayed when I click on a link to a thread.

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Hi Malvin and Ralph,

We just deployed a new forums site that has a new architecture. You may have noticed some of the new features that were included. The daily notification will be sent today.

Ralph, what browser are you using?

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

WOW. I never knew this. There is a section for "your questions regarding ITRC Forums".

But since Dan used to open issues thread here, I thought hpux-general section is the one which moderates.

Thanks Antoniov
cheers

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

Dan,

Back on the line of the recent changes to the forum:

I would like to ad my voice to those that have already said that the preview button was a good idea. It's nice to be able to review the submission prior to making official.

The thing that I don't like is the total elimination of white space in a person's entry. This entry here, for example, should have more than one single paragraph, but it is all ran together.

In my humble, uneducated opinion this is NOT a good thing. It makes it rather difficult to read. It also makes the issue of (for example) where one script ends and another begins without having to make two different entries to the same ticket.

One other bit of information for you. Since your service doesn't offer a spell checker, some of us will use an application such as M$ Word to type out our messages prior to putting them into the forums. Prior to this change, it was no problem to do this with a simple copy/paste. Now there is a new challenge involved due to the fact that when you copy some things (such as the ever-common apostrophe) you will get strange characters in you post that you must manually deal with. Not a desirable thing in the long run.

Sorry for rambling, but I appreciate you taking the time to address these issues.

Have a great day!

Re: Forums Will Be UnavialableThis Weekend

John,

They are working on the blank line problem, which has been previously reported.

In the meantime, one can force blank lines by keying (space)(Enter) whereever a blank line is needed, as I am doing here:

This is very strange (second answer is in the first answer and in columns not correct)
