Re: frecover in other system

Yes!!! ABSOLUTELY!!!! fbackup tapes are most definitely portable between systems. Just make sure you have the appropriate space to restore whatever it is you want to restore. Just use 'frecover' on your other HP-UX system to restore the data.

Re: frecover in other system

Hi,
Of course you can,if the O/S are both the HP-UX! If the directory structure is not completely the same, you can use "-X" option to recover the data to a temp directory then use "cp -p" to the actual directory.
With "-N" option you can only make a view of the file lists in the fbackup tape!
#man frecover
can give you a detail help!

Re: frecover in other system

I have experience of cloning vg00 from a A-class 400 to another A-class 400 using ignite tape, and then simply change hostname and ip_address. It works well.

Re: frecover in other system

THe answer is, of course, yes but let's be a little careful. Frecover is not intended to used as a means of transferring an OS or cloning a system; that's the job of Ignite. As long as you are trying to transfer data fbackup will work like tar, cpio, ... only better and faster. Fbackup/frecover does not even require that the OS versions be the same.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: frecover in other system

The right tool for the right job.

For normal files, fbackups will work system to system. For database files, only if the database was cold when the backup was taken.

For system or OS cloning, the tool to use is Ignite.
