Free HP-UX for learning !!
Can I get HP-UX for the purpose of learning ? Can HP-UX be installed on servers other than PA-RISC/ITANIUM, i.e can it be installed on a intel based PC/server for the purpose ? Are there some simulation softwares available for the same ?
Thanks,
PB.

Re: Free HP-UX for learning !!
No, HP-UX cannot be installed on an x86 system. I suggest creating an HP TestDrive account and/or installing a BSD or Linux distro.

Re: Free HP-UX for learning !!
HP-UX isnt free and comes with licence and HW.
It can go only on PA-RISC/ Itanium or if Intel Platform is the choice, only HP Integrity. Try to see your options at:

Installing HP-UX on PC: "No.". You can purchase a B2600/B2000 workstations for your practice. But not on what we know as PCs. :)
Simulation Software=No as far as i know of. But many guides to learn from at docs.hp.com and ofcourse..... ITRC Forums....

Re: Free HP-UX for learning !!
Yes you can get HP-UX for the purpose of learning, but you'll have to pay for it.
For a few hundred dollars on ebay you can get a workstation that runs it and media to install it.

Re: Free HP-UX for learning !!
As SEP mentions above, unless you want to spend some $ in purchasing a workstation that run HP-UX, the test drive environment would be ideal for basic learning. However, you will not be able to practice advance commands.
Above all, get a good book.
Search this forum for a list of the best once.
kind regards
