Fresh 11.0 install on L-class.

Hi:

I am new to HP-UX administration. I have to install a new L-class machine with 7100 array. I have the necessary sizes for all the volume groups. If anyone could guide me, i mean the steps it would be most helpful.

Thanks

Mark.

Re: Fresh 11.0 install on L-class.

why 11, when 11i is so stable? Anyway boths installs are the same.

You need to boot from the CD.
Interrupt the system boot at the 10 second interval.
Run 'SEA' to get the list of devices to boot from. (Don't have your 7100 attached)
Select the path that is correct, probably shown as 0/0/2/1.2.0
Use that P? like this:
e.g.
BO p2

The CD will boot and you will be prompted with a menu. Select the Instal option then media only/advanced installation. You will then be allowed to change logical volume/filesystem/networking from there.
The installation guide, should show most these features.

Re: Fresh 11.0 install on L-class.

Hi Mark:

There's a good guide to installing 11.0 here:

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/B5532-90001.pdf

As for logical volume sizes in vg00 these are values I like with an 18-36GB disk.

/stand = 200-400
/ = 200-400
/home = 80
/opt = 2000
/tmp = 1000-2000
/usr = 2000
/var = 2000

Certainly swap (lvol2) size varies depending on your memory and to an extent your application needs.

I inflate filesystems like '/tmp' and '/var' in order to have plenty of work space for patching and logs.

Regards!

Re: Fresh 11.0 install on L-class.

Hi (again) Mark:

Michael makes a good point regarding 11.0 versus 11.11. In less than a year, release 11.0 will be discontinued. I'd opt for an installation of 11.11 to stay current:

Re: Fresh 11.0 install on L-class.

Hi,Mark

Yep! I strongly agree two experts opinion.

It's 11.0 will be discontined ,so I also recommend 11i to install in your machine.
Anyway, there is one of thread how to install 11.0,Have a look at this

Re: Fresh 11.0 install on L-class.

There may be some reasons to install 11.00 instead of 11i.

There are a pretty large number of applications, for example Cyborg HR, or Software AG Adabas/Natural suite with no support on 11i yet.

Otherwise 11i is the way to go. Its mature, its stable, its a rock.
