Fresh install of 11.11 over 10.20
I want to install 11.11 onto a machine which currently has 10.20 installed. I don't want to upgrade but start from scratch.
What is the simplest way of doing this?
Thanks,
Tony.

Do a cold-install.

Re: Fresh install of 11.11 over 10.20
Using the installation CD set for 11.11 would be the best way to do the cold install.
Never ever think about upgarding.
Possible other way:
Do you have an hwardware wise similar system?
If yes you could use ignite to install from that system to the 10.20 system.
In practice this looks the same as a cold install form cd.

If you search this forum you will find many instances of not to upgrade but to do a fresh install.

Re: Fresh install of 11.11 over 10.20
I found out (the hard way!!) it is wise to:
- keep a hardcopy of /etc/fstab (if you have more volume groups than vg00).
- plug the network cable in an 10 Mbit card, since the core OS does not support 100 Mbit cards. (s/w for 100 Mbit cards are called applications).
- keep a fresh ignite tape of your existing 10.20 system, so you can go back.
Good luck

Cold install is really best way to get machine to 11i.
