From Linux Proxmox to HP-UX?

Hello,

We're thinking about migrating a 6 Linux guests Proxmox environment wich is running on a Dell server with 18 disks SAS storage. Is there any good price-performance HP-UX based solution (hypervisor and hardware) for that?

Thanks.

What version of HP-UX would you be running?  10.20, 11.00, 11.11, 11.23, or 11.31  - also, would you be wanting a PA-RISC or Itanium box?

Re: From Linux Proxmox to HP-UX?

I don't known much about HP-UX and thats the reason why I'm here.

We have a Promox installed in a Dell system that manages 6 vms (linux servers). We plan to migrate it to another system (hardware and software). We'd like to know about possible HP-UX virtualization solutions and wich Linux distros could be used as guests with these systems.

I know that either PA-RISC and Itanium are RISC but not more beyond that.

Re: From Linux Proxmox to HP-UX?

I don't know anything about Promox or Dell system but I do know HP-UX hardware.

There is no HP-UX box that houses 18 drives. The only one that comes close is an Itanium RX6600, that box can do a max of 16 internal SAS drives. You can do Virtual Machines on them and they support the latest version of HP-UX / 11.31 (v3). below is a link to something that would seem to fit your needs. We (Cypress Tech) have a few of these and are familiar with the OS and hardware.

Re: From Linux Proxmox to HP-UX?

The Dell servers are Intel x86 boxes.
HP-UX runs on either PARISC or Itanium hardware which is totally incompatible with x86.

You would have to port all your apps, databases, webpages, etc to the new platforms.
There is nothing on the Dell hardware that can be moved to the HP-UX platform.
Virtualization and containers on HP-UX are only for HP-UX environments.
