fsadm & HPUX.11

Hi all,
Straight off the bat; I'm very new to HP-UX.

Q: Is there an alternative to fsadm to perform defragmation of the filesystems?

Cheers,
Cameron

Re: fsadm & HPUX.11

I am not aware of any way other than with fsadm. There may be commercial packages, but I've never had any use for one.

Re: fsadm & HPUX.11

I never heard of any other command. I think the answer is no.

In vxfs we always use fsadm and in case of old HFS filesystem we had to backup the data, recreate the file system and restore it back.

Re: fsadm & HPUX.11

Thanks for the quick response Patrick.

Wanted to know before hitting the business with the cost of a license.

We have fsadm running on our development box, but that's a free license apparently.

Will sus out where & how to get the software/licensing.

Cheers,

Thanks for the tip Sudeesh.

Will keep that in mind if I come across such a bridge.

Hi Cameron,

I'm not aware of any other product that could do that apart from OnlineJFS. You can easily source out price (estimate) from software.hp.com.

Re: fsadm & HPUX.11

To really do a good online defrag, you need the OnLine JFS product from HP. It has MANY MANY other advantages, like online resize of a filesystem, as well. I personally wouldn't live without it.
