fsadm no license

I want to reduce /opt, but before I do I want to defragment that volume.

No I notice that I don't have a license to use fsadm??

# fsadm -F vxfs -D -E -d -e /opt
fsadm: You don't have a license to run this program

The machine has a license:
# uname -a
HP-UX testserv B.11.11 U 9000/811 2008755245 unlimited-user license

Why is this happening? Do I need a specific license for that program?

Hi Chris:

Yes, to utilize the defragmentation features, dynamic resizing and certain mount options of JFS (VxFS) filesystems, you must *purchase* an "Online JFS" license. This is well worth its cost and I encourage you to do so.

The license information that you see in the 'uname' output refers to a time when you purchased the ability to use n-many (2, 8, 16 or more) hard-wired connections to your server. Sometime ago, this was eliminated and servers today have an unlimited number of connections they can make. There is and was never any relationship between this license and the Online JFS one.

Its a additional feature of HP-UX for extending filesystem without umounting FS.


Hence you need to purchase it.

That one is the one I was talking about and did not work.

In the mean time I contacted Forsythe and they fixed the problem.
