fsadm reorg's
Hi,
is it safe to run a vxfs reorg using fsadm -e on a filesystem with live running Oracle databases in it?
thanks, Greg

Re: fsadm reorg's
Hi,
Yes it is quite safe and can be done online but opt to do it when utilization of databse os quite low as it may affect performance if done at high utilization time and may take very long time as well depending on utilization and data volume.
HTH,
Devender

Re: fsadm reorg's
Yes, it is quite safe but don't expect much in the way of performance improvements. Very seldom do these operations make a perceptable difference and especially not in the case of Oracle where the data files tend to be preallocated and thus not heaviny fragmented.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: fsadm reorg's
thanks, Guys. It's not so much about performance.I have cleaned up the filesystem but prior to this all free extents were 1block only.
