fsck on business copy lun fails

I have a VA7400 connected to two different systems, one an N4000 hpux 11.0, the other an rp7410 hpux 11.11. After creating business copy lun, running vgchgid, vgimport, vgchange, I can run fsck -F vxfs -p /dev/vgb3/lvol1 on the N4000 fine, but it fails on the rp7410 with: file system does not contain a valid log.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: fsck on business copy lun fails

Hallo Debra,

I don't know the VA7400, but I think your problems result from differences betwenn the file systems of HP-UX 11.0 and 11.11.
I recommend to update both systems on the same OS version.

hope this helps

Sounds like a difference in the JFS filesystem versions, 3 on 11.0 and 4 on 11i. You can check the version number with;
fstyp -v /dev/vgxx/lvolyy

Looks like you will need to run v3 on 11.0 and 11i to ensure you can use the filesystem between both.

Re: fsck on business copy lun fails

Hi Debra:

It would be interesting to see if you have PHCO_24813 for 11.11. This patch is for 'fsck_vxfs'. The patch fixes a situation where if fsck is run twice in a row in log reply mode it may corrupt the directory entries. If you don't have it it might be worth a quick application and test since no reboot is required.

Regards!

Re: fsck on business copy lun fails

Thanks to all for your responses. So far in my checking I have found: I need the 11.11 os as I am migrating to that new machine and will be upgrading all my other machines to 11.11 also and that is the one that does not work, both systems have jfs 3, I do have the patch PHCO_24813 on the system that does not work and fsck -o full does work. Any other ideas?
