Re: Ftp access to root

Hi:

Make sure that the host attempting to do the FTP is not denied the privilege in the '/etc/ftpd/ftpaccess' file.

Regards!

Hi,

check also the manpage for ftpusers and the contents of:
/etc/ftpd/ftpusers

Re: Ftp access to root

Shalom, Tvs,

ftp access for root is considered a major security hazard. Auditors will note it and its a bad idea.

A better idea is to install Secure shell and you get ftp-like access for root with secure authentication.

Secure shell is based on openssh. Openssh is built into Linux, probably hp-ux now that I think of it, and there are free clients for Windows.

There is very little reason to have ftp root access and I advise strongly against it.
