Re: FTP Delayed login - how to disabled reverse name resolution on WU-FTPD

The following is taken from the manpage for ftpaccess in wu-ftd. Hope it helps.

dns refuse_mismatch [override]
Refuse FTP sessions when the forward and reverse lookups for the remote site do not match. Display the named file (like a message file), admonishing the user. If the optional override is specified, allow the connection after complaining.

dns refuse_no_reverse [override]
Refuse FTP sessions when there is no reverse DNS entry for the remote site. Display the named file (like a message file), admonishing the user. If the optional override is specified, allow the connection after complaining.

dns resolveroptions [options]
The resolveroptions option allows you to tweak name server options. The line takes a series of flags as documented in resolver(3) (with the leading RES_ removed). Each can be preceded by an optional + or -. For example,

dns resolveroptions +aaonly -dnsrch

turns on the aaonly option (only accept authoritative answers) and turns off the dnsrch option (search the domain path).

You more likely have slow or no name resolution.

The solution to this is to make sure the DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf are valid and provide anwers in a reasonable period of time.

Check the ping times to those servers and run some tests.

My guess is response is sluggish and thats what's causing the problem.

Reverse lookups should be just as fast as regular lookups based on my tests.

Re: FTP Delayed login - how to disabled reverse name resolution on WU-FTPD

Eileen,

I have the 4670 scanner and it is quite a nice unit. However, the software is *VERY* awkward to use, especially compared to the HP ScanJet software from several years ago. None of the traditional windows menus are present (File..Edit..) and several different programs popup depending on how you initiate the scan (scanner button, start the Director software, etc).

What you need is a picture editing package which can take the scans you make and adjust them to fit the layout you want, in this case, make the scan fit the entire page. I use MS Digital Image Pro but there are other packages out there. Ease of use is the biggest problem when it comes to image editing. It's best to try it for yourself at a good PC store. (I personally like the original HP scanjet software and will be experimenting with the TWAIN driver to see if it will work with the 4670)

However, the best place to ask this quesion is in the Digital Imaging forum. This locagtion is the HP-UX (HP Unix) forum. The folks that follow the Digital Imaging forum can give you a lot of help.
