ftp problem

Hi,

I have some ftp problem!

It was working fine before. I restricted the ftp access by editing the /etc/inetd.conf file.

I just wanted to ftp some files and henceforth i enabled again and issued a
#inetd -c command

and i am able to ftp from server to server, but not from my PC to the server.

It gives the following message:

C:\Documents and Settings\sysadmin.ale>ftp 10.200.226.53
Connected to 10.200.226.53.
Connection closed by remote host.

The server ip is in the 10.200.226.* network and my PC is in the 10.200.227.* network.

(The surprising thing is we are able to ftp this server from a remote PC having 10.1.* network)

Kindly help!!

Thanks!

Re: ftp problem

Shalom,

You say:
I restricted the ftp access by editing the /etc/inetd.conf file.

What exactly did you do?

Its impossible to help without knowing how you broke it.

Re: ftp problem

Added the # mark infront of ftp to just disable it and issued

inetd -c commamd

Then remove the # mark from it and re-issue the same command again!

Thanks!

Re: ftp problem

Hi Sridhar,

the message suggests that the server has deliberately cut you off. There must be a message about this in the syslog file, please post this.

Check also if the file /var/adm/inetd.sec exists, as this or something else must have been activated by the re-reading of the configuration: inetd.sec can, if activated, restrict actions for various services.

it would be nice if you always got a second chance

Re: ftp problem

u remove comment line from /etc/inetd.conf
file from the front of ftp then it will work
remeber if u did any change in that file
u have to restart it wiht -c option
