a user goes per ftp makro on the server, picks up a file, makro quits and I receive numerous ftp session closed in syslog.log:
Jan 2 14:55:42 erlaap05 ftpd[3197]: FTP session closed
Jan 2 14:55:47 erlaap05 ftpd[3199]: FTP session closed
Jan 2 14:56:42 erlaap05 ftpd[3243]: FTP session closed
Jan 2 14:56:47 erlaap05 ftpd[3245]: FTP session closed
can anyone tell me how I can get entry in log, yet not every few seconds?

Also confirm that your macro is not connecting/disconnecting multiple times.

i checked all issues on ftp. I do not have the v - for verbose in the file, yet problem still persists.
the ftp version:
(Version 1.1.214.4(PHNE_34544)
is there a newer version, or patch?
can anyone help

It is always refreshing to see a self proclaimed expert in a field (star by your name for SA forum) stumped. Perhaps if you posted the ftp job syntax we could be of more assistance.

after looking into ftp, I chose to install a different version.
I installed Revision 1.009 Version wuftpd on all my HPUX 11.11 machines.
Problem seems to be solved. I have not had any additonal problems, since.
