in the manual entry for ftpd, an option is given:

-P Enables third party transfer.

Hi John,

What -P does is allow proxy commands i.e. being able to open a secondary control connection to another server & xfer files between those two servers.
The ftp command proxy is how to implement this. Do a man ftp & check out the proxy section.
