Garbage characters on console during boot

I don't know when this started..
When booting my rp5470 (HP-UX 11.i), just after "Start router discovery protocol daemon" displays, characters, in what appear like Russian(?) overwrite areas of the screen.
Once the boot process completes, everything is fine.
I took a look in /sbin/init.d/rdpd, which issues the "Start router... " text, but could find nothing untoward.
Any help appreciated and points awarded!
Much thanks,
Brad

Re: Garbage characters on console during boot

Brad -- There are two parts to the console that can be reset.

Only one applies to the reboot process.

1) Clean the hardware --> Turn off the terminal. Hold down the "d" key while powering the box back up. Count to about ten while powering the terminal back up and let it go. This should bring up a message about "Default configs used, press return to clear". Press return.

2) Kill the daemon that runs on the console (all though for a boot up issue this wont make a difference).

Re: Garbage characters on console during boot

Brad -- Also, take a look to see which daemons are starting up just after the Router Daemon .. i.e.

ll /sbin/rc*d/*rdpd*

Then look at the files that would start up right after that.

It may be that the problem is just AFTER your Router call.
