Generating numbers for initial passwords and password resets

Hi,

This is doing my nut!!! Can anyone please tell me how to configure HPUX11 to generate numbers for new user accounts and password resets, instead of the characters. It was working on our older HPUX10.20 server before we replaced it with our HPUX11.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards.

Don't quite understand what you mean, usernames consisting of numbers, or passwords consisting of numbers, or counting the number of new user accounts created and the number of times passwords are reset?

Don't know, is it a trusted system? Ours is still 10.20 (trusted) and it generates a number which the user then hass to type in to set their password first time they login. Stops Admins knowing password which I'm all for.

Hi,

If you are looking for "password authorization number", I think that feature doesn??t exists in HP-UX11.

try to use passwd -f (and possibly -d) options.

Re: Generating numbers for initial passwords and password resets

The problem is on HPUX11 when you create a new user account or reset a password, the system generates a string of characters. In HPUX10.20 it generated a 3digit number which meant the user had to key that in at first login and specify there own password.

The system is a trusted system.
