We have a V-class box that has a gigabit card, A4926A, that we are considering putting into a compaq 1600 or compaq 3000. Would there be a win2k server O/S that would support a driver for this? And if it possible, what are other requirements would the A4926A PCI card need to run in a compaq/windows world (processor speed, memory size...etc)? Looking forward to your inputs.

JD,

*** You could have purchased a compatible PCI 1000Base-SX gigabit ethernet fiber card (A4926A) with the money you wasted even thinking about it :-)
Would there be a win2k server O/S that would support a driver for this?
*** You would need to find the actual manufacturer of the card, which I suspect is not HP.
And if it possible, what are other requirements would the A4926A PCI card need to run in a compaq/windows world (processor speed, memory size...etc)?
*** You will need to check the hardware requirements of the card versus the server you plan on installing or attempting to install into.

Re: Gigabit driver
Indeed, the A4926A is OEMed from elsewhere. The main card ID's remain unchanged, but the subvendor ID is altered to be HP-specific, and the HP-UX drivers will look for that specific subvendor ID before claiming the card.
If the drivers under other OSes are not particular about subvendor ID's they may indeed be willing and able to drive the HP A4926A.

Re: Gigabit driver
Sorry about not assigning points before. I guess I'd forgotten about it with all the projects that are going on out here. Better late than never and for that I give the higest possible. WE ended up buying new gig cardd for the compaq servers and could not find any drivers for the A4926A that would work for windows. We ended up with NetGear's GA621 but it's crashing one of our system. Oh well, this one will have to go to the other side of the windows side forums. Thanks for your input.
