Re: Gigabits ethernet cards

Hi kumar,

"Gigabit Ethernet, a transmission technology based on the Ethernet frame format and protocol used in local area networks ( LAN s), provides a data rate of 1 billion bits per second (one gigabit ).

Please follow the link below.

http://docs.hp.com/en/netcom.html#1000Base-T%20and%201000Base-SX%20%28Gigabit%20Ethernet%29

Its a single card with one or dual ports.

Gigabit means "1GB" transfer rate/sec. It is a Single card which allows you to transfer 1GB (max) throughput. It can be either in HP-UX or Windows lan card.

Re: Gigabits ethernet cards

hi,

see: http://docs.hp.com/en/J5683-90017/ch01s02.html

Gigabit Ethernet is a high-performance, Ethernet networking solution for servers and workstations.

The Local Area Network cards are data link cards that support the IEEE 802.3z standard for 1000Base-SX operation over multimode fiber, and the IEEE 802.3ab standard for 1000Base-T operation over 4-pair Cat-5 or Cat-5E UTP copper wiring.

1000Base-T brings high bandwidth with 10, 100 and 1000 Mbit/s speeds, which makes more processing power available for applications.

(this is from the above doc)

hope this helps too!

kind regards

Re: Gigabits ethernet cards

Hi,
Gigabit means 1000Mbps, there is no difference between Gigabit ethernet used in normall machines and HP Servers. All new machines are now shipped with Gigabit NICs. Only the GSP port you can find with 100Mbps in new machines.

This Gigabit NIC are lower combatable, as it works in 100Mbps Mode too, when connected to the 100Mbps switches.
