Glance Upgrade

Can anyone please answer the following questions.
I am currently rolling out an upgrade of Glance and Measureware accross our systems and the documentation I ma finding does not answer my questions. The current O/S's are HP-UX 11.00 and 11i.
1. Will using swinstall on more recent Glance Depot software simply upgrade Glance and Measureware?
2. Is a reboot required ?

Re: Glance Upgrade

1. yes
2. no

For 1. you can verify that update will take place by clicking "Product Summary" button in "Install Analysis" window (swinstall GUI). Under "Projected Action" it should say "Update" (not "New Install").

Re: Glance Upgrade

cool thats what I suspected.
does the same apply when I am upgrading a depot? i.e
if I swcopy the glance software into an exsisting depot where an older version exsists, will that be overwritten?

Re: Glance Upgrade

To find out if a product needs a reboot, you can do an interactive swlist (-i) on the depot, select the product, go to Actions, and select "Show Description of Software." At the bottom of the description box, it will tell you if it requires a reboot. You may have to scroll down to the bottom of the box to display it.

Re: Glance Upgrade

I think you should remove the old version first, because it will keep the old one.

Re: Glance Upgrade

Be careful. Their is a version of glance that has problems with non-HP terminals. It thinks your terminal can't support 24 lines and won't run.

Do a search on the forum for "glance 24" and select the entry dated Dec 2004.

I'm currently experiencing the problem and the response from HP tech support was it would be fixed by the end of 2005.
