Gnome 1.4 on HP-UX, swallowed app

I configured a swallowed app "cutview" without
knowing exactly what it is. Now I want to
unconfigure this. Maybe someone would like to give me a hint how to do that? Whenever I start cutview now the process starts and runs but the window just pops up briefly and I can't see anything on my screen that looks like cutview.
Thanks in advance, Christian

Re: Gnome 1.4 on HP-UX, swallowed app

From gnome menu : Panel -> Edit menus (brings up the gnome menu editor - gmenu), do you see the cutview icon here ? if so click on it and either delete or try the following : select Run in Terminal alongside the icon field it may prevent cutview from disappearing .... just a guess.

If the above doesn't help could you give a screenshot or a description of where the cutview swallowed application is located eg in a user created menu or a gnome default eg Utilities,Programs etc ...

Re: Gnome 1.4 on HP-UX, swallowed app

I just used Panel->Add to Panel->Swallowed app. I did not add to a menu or submenu. I just found a strange entry under favorites which I deleted, but that didn't help.

So maybe if I just remove the panel, the app will not be swallowed anymore, might that work?

I'd click on the embedded app on your gnome panel, select remove from panel - should work.

Re: Gnome 1.4 on HP-UX, swallowed app

I removed the whole panel. Then for one or two
iterations I got the cutview application on my
screen, without decorations. Then, about the third time I tried to start cutview I got back to the old behaviour: the window flashes up and disappears. It really would be nice to find out where this is configured so that I can take that out and get my "normal" cutview back...

My next option is to exit my Gnome session and see if that helps at all.

Re: Gnome 1.4 on HP-UX, swallowed app

search for cutview in file
.gnome/panel.d/default/Applet_Config and delete
the entries found. then restart panel

Re: Gnome 1.4 on HP-UX, swallowed app

Thanks for the hints!

I searched for cutview in all files and directories under .gnome. I only found two entries in the .gnome/panel file and deleted those, but that didn't help either. Maybe the saved session information doesn't have any cutview information any more now so if I end my gnome session and start a new one, maybe cutview will work again...

Re: Gnome 1.4 on HP-UX, swallowed app

try this, this will ungracefully kill X and your gnome session but when you relog into gnome it will prompt you if you wish to cleanup your session, providing you have not saved your current session it may well return you to the original state prior to your changes .... a long shot but it may work
