Graphical problems when starting SAM from CDE Front Panel on HP-UX 11.00

Hi all,

recently we faced problems when starting SAM from CDE Front Panel on a HP-UX 11.00 machine. The graphics crashes, shells are no longer visible in the usual way, the background and the front panel is missing and no logout is possible.
Interestingly, when starting SAM from a shell by typing "sam" no problems appear. Does anyone know the problem and how to fix it?

Gian,

Keep in mind this is simply an educated guess:

When starting SAM from a terminal, the environment is set from say "dtterm", /etc/profile, .profile, .dtprofile, etc. When launching SAM from the front panel, perhaps the shell type is different causing the difference in graphics display.

depends what you mean by start sam from the CDE front panel, if you mean from CDE's Application window manager located via the CDE font panel then note there is a known issue with this method : see KBRC DOC ID -> LMXKBRC00006401 for details and work-arounds.
