gray screen before login rx1620's
Can anyone help, some of our x-stations are hanging at a gray screen for 5 - 8 minutes just before login? We are running HP-UX 11. The x-stations are NCD NC900's.

Re: gray screen before login rx1620's
Could you post a /etc/resolv.conf and a /etc/nsswitch.conf from one of the x-stations ?
Regards,

Re: gray screen before login rx1620's
I hope this is how to respond back to you, I am new to this. I do not have the /etc/resolv.conf or
the /etc/nsswitch.conf files to post. I could not find them on our system. Is there anything else I could post?

Re: gray screen before login rx1620's
so you are using a local /etc/hosts file for hostname resolving, no dns or nis ? If true copy an original nsswitch file to the nsswitch.conf. If you search inside the /etc directory there are "# ll | grep nsswitch" you will see there are a few example files.
# cp /etc/nsswitch.files /etc/nsswitch.conf
Check if you still have a long delay.
Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan

Re: gray screen before login rx1620's
So far your suggestion is working, but we will not be able to do a complete test for another few weeks. We work in cycles and are at a down time. I have tested the machines and they seem fine but our network is not as busy as when we are in full swing. I hope that when all 200 machines are being used the problem is still solved. I will keep you informed
Thanks,
Laurie

Well we had 6 machines hang at the gray screen tonight. So I quess the fix did not work. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
