Greater than 8 tape LUN's on 11.11
tape devices on systems, specifically working
on a 11i system right now.
I have installed the Quality Pack and the Hardware Enablement bundles dated June 2003, which include patches that specify use of more than 8 LUNs for fibre disk devices. After adding these bundles, I can see the additional disk devices, but still not tape devices. The patch PHKL_26743 is the one which specifically mentions the additional LUNs for disks, but doesn't mention tape or isn't general enough to cover all devices, so this implies to me that this only "enables" additional disk LUNs.
Does anyone else have more than 8 tape LUNs?
Other thoughts?
Thanks,
Steven

Re: Greater than 8 tape LUN's on 11.11
If you are just trying to access a SAN tape drive, then you should just be able to see the tape drives no matter what.
You will see the tape drives as /dev/rmt/?m.

Re: Greater than 8 tape LUN's on 11.11
For many non-HP SAN devices for example the Xiotech Magnitude Storage array, the limit is 8 LUNS per fiber card.
HP has been promising a driver fix for this for two years. I've given up asking for status on it.

Re: Greater than 8 tape LUN's on 11.11
It is a SAN, and been simplified down to (2) tape libraries with 4 drives and 1 robot each. Libraries connected to a Crossroads 10000, connected to a Brocade 3200, to the host (RP5470). I see 1st robot, 4 drives, 2nd robot, 2 drives for 8 tape devices, missing the 2 other tape drives in the library. Config was bigger but couldn't see others. Fibre card is a HP card.
IOSCAN is attached
Thanks!

Re: Greater than 8 tape LUN's on 11.11
Not positive, but it appears to me that this could be addressed or zoned differently. Such that each robot is at ID 0, then 4 drives at 1-4.
I really don't think the patches will apply to tape devices as these aren't technically LUNs - they're just SCSI devices with IDs. Even with those patches mentioned applied, you still get no higher the cXtYd7, you just increment the t values to get visibility of the other "LUNs".
Rgds,
Jeff
