I have an OLD 9000 series 715/100 platform that I use mostly for storage of shell scripts etc... and for playing around.
Recently the second hard drive in this platform just disappeared. An ioscan could not see it.
When I performed a "cold" reboot of the box (actually removing and re-attaching the power cable), the disk came back, and no data was lost. However, normal reboots did nothing.
A friend of mine said this is a problem with the old platforms, where the internal scsi bus gets corrupted or out of time with the CPU? Another friend said he has seen this on more recent HP platforms.
Has anyone seen this before? Or can anyone confirm my friend's diagnosis?
I just think that this is pretty strange. The other thing I am wondering is that the hard drive may just be on its way out. However the drive itself is quite new.

Solution
Hi,
Normally if the drive is on it's way out
it would still be recognised by the system,
just not being able to use it. It would
do things like report 0 bytes from the
output of the 'diskinfo' command.
I would suggest to look at perhaps the
cabling instead power, SCSI, terminators
etc.
Cheers
~Michael~

Re: Hard drive "disappeared" from Platform ioscan
Reboot the system and while on booting interrupt the boot process by pressing "esc".
Interrupt the boot process and go to ISL.
at ISL give the command "sea" to list the available harddisks. If your Hardisk is not detected here itself, then you may have to check the hardware connnectiivty. ( like terminator ,SCSI ID, power cable ).
