Re: Hardware address ?
I tried the command you gave.
But what I mean to say was that as in linux we can tell that the disk connected to Primary/master is read as hda primary/secondary is hdb...so on. Is there any such ting in HPUX to remember???
Thanks in advance.

Re: Hardware address ?
As long as the system is running, you will see a disconnected / failed or whatever device with a stutus of NO_HW in ioscan.
You cannot say something like
/dev/dsk/c1t6d0
is
0/0/2/1.6.0
but vice versa.
If you have 0/0/2/1.6.0 you are able to say this is the device file cxtydz ...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

SolutionIn this particular case the controler number 1 depends on many other things (e.g. first appearance in the system). The 2 other numbers are directly mapped from the hardware path (scsi id 6, lun id 0).
This applies to nearly all devices and is intended. E.g. you'll find the hardware paths printed on the machine/slot.
BTW: The analogy to Linux does not work well.
You refer to IDE devices... things work differently in the SCSI/FC world.
Especially if you attach SAN disks with multiply paths to a linux box your way of thinking does not work anymore. And I did not talk about how udev changes device names.
My 2 cents,
Armin
