I require to grow a remote server but don't know how to see if the server has available ports for attaching a new Disk Array. I tried to know if the logical volumes can be growed, but the sam gives me an error (see the attachment), what command I need to run for getting this info? Can you help on this?
SERVER: 9000/800/N4000-36
OS: HP-UX rduxsl B.11.00 U 9000/800
Running:
# amdsp -i
Arrays known to the AM60Srvr:
Array with S/N: 000C00A0B8061B3E Alias: FC60_2
Array with S/N: 000C00A0B80940C8 Alias: FC60_1
Regards
Best regards

Solution/usr/sbin/cstm
and/or
/usr/sbin/xstm
would show you a graphical spec of the machine.
which amdsp shows you location of arraycommands
"man amdsp" shows you command options
To check vgs : vgdisplay
For sam problem, have you applied latest sam patches?

Re: Hardware options
You have another issue on this system. HP-UX 11.00 support ends for most folks on 12/31/2006
You need to also look up the specifications on your disk array and then compare them to the xstm output.
This is not totally reliable. Some disk arrays cna be configured to present scsi disks to two systems without them being visible to the each other.
Fibre channel disk arrays can do this as well.
A utility that lets you look at the fiber channel array is usually helpful in figuring this out.
For most non-hp disk arrays after new space is allocated a system boot is required.

Re: Hardware options
what does it mean "available ports"?
Do you need to know about free PCI slots?
In this case run
olrad -q
or a simple ioscan to see free LBA pathes.
If you need more info about your FC60, run
amdsp -a FC60_1
(or FC60_2)
or run (c/m/x)stm against it.
If your array is connected via switch, you can connect other arrays to it - of course.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Hardware options
I growth the Logical Volumes by doing the following:
#vgdisplag
#lvextend -L 60000 /dev/vgfc6/data
#fsadm -F vxfs -b 60000M /u02/oradata/SHOP
No required to buy new array.
Best regards
