HASH SETTING

I am running a PeopleSoft/Oracle Application Server on an 11.11 T600. I keep getting an error message saying "not enough memory for hash table" When I try to bring up some instances. Eventually I run out of memory as the box gets hit hard and I have to reboot or yoyo the apps.

I am trying to fix the problem, I tuned the kernel according to PS's recommendations.

Can someone tell me what this kernel parm is?
Will setting this help the has problem?

chang_hash_locks is set to 256.

Peter, thanks for the reply. Interesting that you asked that question. I tried to load that patch last night, without luck.

Should I have used 'enforce_dependencies=flase' for the install?

Have you read the special instructions?
No dependencies are listed on the patch site.

The problem was there before I upgraded and did the install.

I'll read the special instructions. Do you think I should force the patch to install?

25503 and 25500 are for 10.20 and 11.0.
I am running 11.11, but thanks.

I guess the reason the 30816 patch failed is because I dont run the ATM service, whatever that is.

Special instructions say to stop and start the ATM service after reboot. Is that why the patch wouldn't install? Because I am not using ATM?

Yep. You got it. Since you're not running ATM, the patch doesn't apply.

Thanks, any ideas what I can load to stop an App memory leak. I am very sure it is not the OS kernel.

I am at a loss here. It sounded like 30816 was the fix I needed.

if you have no ATM interface this patch will not help you.

No apologies Peter. I appreciate all of your help with this issue. It is starting to burn me real bad. I have to keep bouncing the apps every 6 hours or so....

I think you are reading something into this error message that is not there. Is this an application error or does it get logged to syslog? I don't think this has anything to do with kernel tuning or patches.

If an application is leaking memory (the process size is growing without bounds over time) then except in very, very rare cases, the only fix is the application itself. You must notify the vendor. The exceptions are shared libraries which contain bugs.

I suspect that the "hash table" referred to in the error message is an application data structure --- but I am guessing. You really need to contact PeopleSoft.
