Having trouble replacing a drive.

Having trouble replacing a drive.

The drive is failing. I was able to reseat it and get a good backup.

The current drive is an 18GB drive in an FC10.
I am trying to replace it with a 36Gb drive.

I have done a vgcfgbackup and removed the disk from the volume group.

When I replace the drive and replace it I get the following message.

Fibre Channel Driver detected a parse error in the FLOGI/PLOGI response.

Any ideas why I can't replace this?

Should I done a pvremove before I rebooted?

See event 47 and 54 in this link.
http://docs.hp.com/en/diag/ems/dm_TL_adapter.htm

VA 7100 installtion manual says
"If the device has been replaced
intentionally, please use the fcmsutil(1M) command's replace_dsk option to allow the new device to be used.
Fibre Channel Driver detected a parse error in the FLOGI/
PLOGI response returned by nport ID 0x2a. FLOGI/PLOGI Fail Code = 0x6."

I think you need to perform the same steps here too.

Re: Having trouble replacing a drive.

Shalom,

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad.pdf#search=%22when%20disks%20go%20bad%20site%3Ahp.com%22

That document is the definitive how to on such situations.

I'm also rather thrilled to be participating in ITRC from 40,000 feet, aboard an El Al 747-400

Technology is wonderful isn't it.

:-)

Re: Having trouble replacing a drive.

Hi Ray,

Cause: The PLOGI or FLOGI response from the device or switch had a parse error. Parsing error could occur if the PLOGI/FLOGI response payload had an unexpected value. Parsing error occurs normally due to
- a misbehaving device or switch
- a device or switch sending PLOGI or FLOGI response that is not standard compliant

Action: Report the problem to Hewlett Packard and to device or switch Vendor. Provide the contents of the system log file. The system log file is at /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Re: Having trouble replacing a drive.

Hi Ray,

It is very much safe to run the fcmsutil commmand on an on-line disk , if still the error exists you need to remove the corresponding H/W path and reboot the system.
