removed a hard-disk from a server and going to insert the same hdd in the new server whether the contents of the hdd will remain in the disk, if so after connecting it to the new-server the existing LV in the new-server will get over-writted.
Thanks.

SolutionHi Fizan,
You have removed a HDD from server A and going to insert it in server B.
>>contents of the hdd will remain in the disk?
Yes, it will be in that disk only.
>>after connecting it to the new-server the existing LV in the new-server will get over-writted
Data is in LVs which in turn are on HDD, so server B will have LV/data untouched, unless you have not removed that LV's disk.
If you are speaking about LVs in the old disk (from server A), then it will be overwritten if you extend any LV with this disk.

Re: HDD expanding.
Hi Fizan,
Once you connect disk to new server,
Just to "ioscan -fnC disk"
pvcreate -f /dev/rdsk/cxtxtdx --> by doing this all the information will be gone
Thanks,
Johnson

No, but it depends, if you run 'pvcreate -f'
Check man pages for details vgexport/vgimport.
Cheers!!

Re: HDD expanding.
Do you want to use the old disk in the new system with the exixting data? If yes, do not do a pvcreate or newfs with that.
Check the path of the new disk with the help of ioscan and do a vgimport.
