Help choosing "Failsafe" type software

We had a power surge last night, which put us on UPS backup, which ran out at 1130pm, thus the system crashed hard!
What kind of software is available like "failsafe". I need something that will shut down my Unix box correctly, when the power goes off.
I have an HP9000 K220 running HPUX 10.20
I noticed Failsafe doesnt run on 10.20
Any suggestions for me? What to use? Where to buy it? Approximate cost? HPUX 10.20 compliant?

Re: Help choosing "Failsafe" type software

If you use a standard HP UPS unit it connects to your HP server via a serial cable and when the UPS unit becomes active it will notify you on the HP server via various ways, and when the UPS unit is losing battery power it will initiate a tidy shutdown of your server before powering off. Very safe.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

We unfortunately are not using an HP UPS. It is a triplite smart data center UPS.

Re: Help choosing "Failsafe" type software

Ted, I would suggest using the Powertrust UPS, ask your vendor. It hooks up through the serial port of your server. It's saved me more times than I can imagine. It will detect a power surge and switch to battery and, after a time that you configure, will shutdown the system.
