[help]log server problem.[help]

I have setup a log server.and redirect all(50~60) the other client unix's syslog to the log server, but everytimes the syslog file(on the log server)will stop increase after some time(maybe 20min or maybe 10 hours ),which means the syslogd do not write new log to the log file.
it quite strange,I can see the syslogd session still there(via ps -ef |grep syslogd)but the syslogd just do not write anything to the file.
anyone who can give me a clue?
thanks 8-)

Re: [help]log server problem.[help]

- will syslogd notice (and write) if You manually create an entry via the 'logger' command?
- is there still a listening socket open? check netstat -na |grep LISTE

anyway, this sounds like a bug, so please check with hp if there are corresponding patches. alternatively use syslog-ng (which is safer anyway)

Good luck,
Florian

Hi ricky

*) Manualy send an entry thru' logger.
The below will send the output to logger.
#who | logger -p local0.info -t USERS
Check whether this is updating or not...

*) On the Client side, Check the /etc/syslog.conf, entries - where it has to be logged. if u given hostname (followed by @) ensure, name resolution is happening.(test by specifing IP instead of Hostname)

Things are very easy, when u know about it...
