HELP: lost acces to 900 Go :-)

Hello,

Here's the problem:
Last night an ahum, "HP" guy detached several LUNS (13 to be exact) from one system and moved them to another system. However, the alternate links were still present in the lvmtab this morning. At 05 am, the databases crashed and the cluster could no longer be activated.

Then after executing a "vgreduce -l" on the volumegroup to delete the alternat paths from the lvmtab file, I was at least able to display the volume group.

Now here's the current problem: one of the logical volumes in the VG is Bigger than the VG size! which doesn't make any sense as the disks being used by this LV are still present in the VG as well the PV's for the other 4 Lvols.

Fsck fails with the following error:

file system is larger than device
vxfs fsck: cannot initialize aggregate
file system check failure, aborting ...

now what can I do? I don't really feel like restoring these 900 GB, they must still be somewhere?

Is it possible to detach the LUNs again from the other systemp, re-attach them to this system, perform an ioscan and an insf -e followed by a vgextend on the Volume Group?

Help please...

:-)) THANKS!

Shalom,

If the HP guy transferred the LUNs to another system, why may I ask are you trying to work on them from teh existing system?

A LUN is not accessible to a system unless it is assigned to the World Wide Name(from now on WWN) of a Fiber card attached to the system.

The procedure to regain access to these LUNS is to configure them with the WWN of at least one f the Fiber cards of the desired system.

The actual procedure varies from disk system to disk system. An EVA-4000 for example has a windows workstation that provides point and click control.

In the short term, use fcmsutil to get the WWN from the desired fiber card and then you or the proper designee should make the change. Then there is at least some chance of your correcting the situation and regaining access to the LUNS.

Unless other systems have written to the LUNs there is absolutely no reason to restore any data.
