Re: Help! My Desktop Icons are Missing!!!

Shalom Oliver,

Could be your .dtprofile and related .dt folders have been deleted.

Could be someone else owns them and they can't be read.

If you are an admin, see about restoring those files or checking their permissions. If you are a user, ask your admin to do that for you.

Re: Help! My Desktop Icons are Missing!!!

This sounds like a DCE problem. Are you logging in at the console or via telnet? If console have you tried telnet (and vice versa)?

Are you able to reboot to see if that clears the fault?

Oliver,

In a terminal session cd to your home directory, cd .dt, and have a look at the errorlog in case it provides any clues.

Re: Help! My Desktop Icons are Missing!!!

Oliver,

Try the following:

cd to your home dir.
mv .dt .dt.save
log off and log back in.

I've seen this happen when one or more files in the .dt directory is corrupt. By moving the old directory out of the way, when you next login, the system creates a new default .dt directory.

Now, you will only have the default screen that is defined in CDE, but you can recreate your icons and change your desktop, if you wish.

Mark

Re: Help! My Desktop Icons are Missing!!!

Hi,

have you searched for the bitmap file 'Fpterm'?

Check owner and permissions.
