Help needed with oooold 10.20 CD's!

Hi guys,

I have to create a 10.20 system with the latest patches on a K570. Someone told me that "ACE" is the latest 10.20 version of the O/S. I've looked through my old CD's and I have the "10.20 Hardware Extensions 3.0" version. Can anybody shed any light on whether the CD I have will support the K570 and whether it contains the latest version of old, old 10.20?

cheers,

Ian.

Re: Help needed with oooold 10.20 CD's!

Thanks Pedro!

I guess the answer lies in here:

http://www.software.hp.com/RELEASES-MEDIA/history/slide2.html

Unfortunately, I can't open it? It says the page cannot be found.

The custom patch manager part is perfect for when I get the O/S on there.

Thanks,

Ian.

It may be because it's a US-based page...
Is there a Europe-based version of this page?

cheers,

Ian.

Re: Help needed with oooold 10.20 CD's!

Hi,

Go to:

http://www5.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/assessSystemsPage.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|

And run a patch assessment. Just provide the information requested, it's suported for HP-UX 10.20

By the way, I'm an European, I'm from Portugal!

Enjoy :)

Re: Help needed with oooold 10.20 CD's!

Thanks again.

I was really hoping to get a look at that release history though, so I could try and work out what the difference is between ACE and Hardware Extensions 3.0. If anyone can help with that?

cheers,

Ian.

Thanks anyway.

Pete,

Yes, that's great.
I've got just about everything I need now. I still don't think I understand the difference between ACE and Hardware Extensions 3.0 though...

cheers,

Ian.

Ian,

Here's another release history page but still no detail on ACE vs Hardware Extensions:

Re: Help needed with oooold 10.20 CD's!

ACE means Additional Core Extensions but it was very poorly documented as to whether it was a bootable, installable Core HP-UX CD or an add-on. To make things worse, there are ACE versions like 1,2,3, etc.

Not to worry though. You don't neede the ACE CD because it isn't the latest anyways. Since the K570 can be installed with virtually any version of HP-UX 10.20, the only thing you need to do is to use your SupportPlus CDROM dated Dec 2001 which is indeed the very last patch collection. If you don't have a software support contract, you probably don't have SupportPlus CDROMs, but you can download the latest 10.20 patch bundles from the software.hp.com website. (the site is not responding at the moment) It was recently changed to a new name, but it should have the two SupportPlus bundles for the 800 series (HWE and QPK). HWE is for hardware enablement (new drivers, support tools) and QPK is the general patch bundle. There is a diagnostics package called STM/EMS that you should also download from http://www.software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayInstallInfo.do?productNumber=B6191AAE
and http://www.software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayInstallInfo.do?productNumber=B7609BA

A couple of notes: There are about 5 patches needed after loading all of the Dec 2001 patches, and one that must be removed. Here's the list:

swremove PHKL_22311 performance hit for VxFS)

Install:
PHKL_26895 (important for kernel memory mgmt)
PHKL_24518 (hangs, disk stuff)
PHKL_27833 (lo-priority, VxFS fixes)
PHNE_28536 (LAN important)
PHNE_28886 (NFS important)

and replace PHNE_19936 (LAN) with PHNE_22507
