Help !! Where to find a job in HP-UX ?

I have fully installed , configured and managed more than 90 HP 9000/800 ,700(L,K,G,D)servers/workstations since 1994, including the configurations of MC ServiceGuard. I am now in Toronto. Would you please give me some information about how to find a job in related area ? I am very appreciated your help.

Thanks all ,

Scott

Re: Help !! Where to find a job in HP-UX ?

Scott,

I wish I had a solid answer for you, but unfortunately I am currently unemployed myself. I've found that finding a good HP-UX admin position has been rather difficult with the current US economy and the number of related layoffs. There are a number of job sites that may be of interest to you, here is a list of the ones I've been checking for HP-UX related jobs in the US:

http://www.dice.com/
http://www.computerjobs.com/homepage.aspx
http://www.justunixjobs.com/JSHome.asp
http://jobsearch.monster.com/
http://www.unixadminsearch.com/
http://www.flipdog.com

Are you willing to relocate? I would say that your best bet in securing a good HP admin job would be to network with those that you have worked with in the past as they may be able to help you find a good opening.

Good luck with your job search.

Re: Help !! Where to find a job in HP-UX ?

Scott,

Check with your local HP people, they probably know a few clients of theirs that need people. Here in Rochester (across the lake - soon to be connected by a fast-ferry - that can be beaten by car by driving around the lake - oh well just another excuse to spend our tax payer money) its a little slow, like a ripple, but by sept I expect things to get better. Don't forget beefalo :-)

Re: Help !! Where to find a job in HP-UX ?

I am in the same boat as as well. Currently looking for work.

Here are some sites I check in addition to those that Mike lists:

http://www.computerwork.com
http://www.careerbuilder.com
http://www.hotjobs.com
http://www.techies.com

In addition, check with any recruiters in your area and see if they know of anything.

Here are some nationwide in the U.S. I don't know if any of them deal with Canadian clients or not, Sorry.

http://www.amosassociates.com/index1.htm
http://www.netsysco.com/ (their jobs page is stil under construction last time I checked)

Re: Help !! Where to find a job in HP-UX ?

Hey Scott (Monster?),

Ya know I have all the sympathy in the world for you, But this is not what this *forum* is for buddy. And believe me I didn't make these rules.

I was in the same boat as you, VERY recently. I used all other means I had, except this one. I used this forum for one & only one reason...to stay as sharp as possible w/HP-UX.
If we let everybody post in this manner....

Have faith in your abilities & set your mind to interview *better* than all others & it will come to you.

Good luck,
Jeff

Re: Help !! Where to find a job in HP-UX ?

Hi guys! I too was laid off in last July but I was one of the lucky ones and found a job within a month. I am an Oracle developer so I had a little different experience than many of you but what I have seen is that no loger having mastery of one skill is enough. You need a combination of skills, a "hot" combination is,
Oracle, Unix, Java & XML.
Also any front-end with middleware, and back-end combo,
Front-end: HTML & Javascript
Middleware: JSP, JDBC, ASP, Coldfusion
Back-end: Oracle, SQL*Server, DB2

What I believe works and solidifies your job security is that you pick the companies that are industry leaders in their prespective fields, and stick with their software, programming languages, and tools. i.e. UNIX, ORACLE, JAVA. They keep comming out with new software filled with latest and greatest bells & whistles and they court companies to use their products...and the more companies they court the more valuable your skill becomes.
Well, below are some of the web-sites, I hope & pray that help you find an awesome job. Best of luck! Some sites are related to East coast some are related to the whole US and some are global. If I find better sites, I will post it again.
