We have .nfs files (example shown below) appearing intermittently and will usually disappear after awhile.
-rwxrwxrwx 1 va84470 config 2748 May 12 09:16 .nfs3B86C
It hasn't really been a problem until one user got one that hung around for six days and he couldn't delete it even though he was the owner and the permissions were wide open.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening or is it just a fact of life with Unix?

Solution
These files get created when one opens a file for read or write on an nfs mounted directory. Kind of placeholder or file handle as it used to be called in some IT 'dialects'

Re: Hidden .nfsxxxxx files
These files are normal, so long as they go away after a while. If they get left around, you may need to patch NFS.

Re: Hidden .nfsxxxxx files
Thanks for the confirmation. That is what I thought the files were but I needed to confirm it.
