high load average

hi!
i´m running some rp3440 with 2 cpu@1000mhz and 2gb ram. we have problems with the response time from our application (idle times where you can´t even move a window for a few seconds). wwe are using a graphon goglobal xserver which usually runs not that bad. so, what i have seen is a relatively high load average about 3-6.
my question: is it possible to solve the problem with more ram? what does the load average say in general?

thanks for some answers, gust

Re: high load average

On its own, load average says very little.

The load factors you report do not mean you have a problem.

The fact that you have symptoms means you may need to look at performance.

Attaching some data collection scripts and putting in a link on performance. I know the author, great doc.

Re: high load average

Load average tells you how many processes are waiting in queue for CPU.

In most cases, high proc load (>4) means performance problems. You should investigate that dipper with all kinds of collectors that were adviced in the prevous post, before you spend money on ram or cpu.
