High vxfsd daemon TIME in top output.
I'm submitting the following, since my searches did not yield anything conclusive...(ITRC included):
- have noticed that one of my 11i servers (rp8420), although very quiet (not active), is generating a rather unusual high TIME value from top, for the vxfsd daemon. (see attached file).
As stated, nothing unusual is going on the system, I have searched the ITRC, the patch database and the web before coming here, so that my inquiry may be justified...
Thanks very much to all who will look at my small dilemma, and also provide some insight as to what is happening.
Sincerely,
Serge Poitras

Re: High vxfsd daemon TIME in top output.
I don't see any problem, your system is 100% idle, vxfsd is using 1.5 % cpu.

Re: High vxfsd daemon TIME in top output.
System is very idle, but that high value does warrant a "look-see" into why it's that high...

and of course 1.5% will show up high on a almost idle system, especially as it's running at higher priority.
I think there is no actual problem.

Re: High vxfsd daemon TIME in top output.
could you post your HPUX version, uptime and check if patch PHCO_32466 (if you are running 11.11) is installed.

Re: High vxfsd daemon TIME in top output.
the value that concerns us is the TIME value in top (8511:23):
CPU TTY PID USERNAME PRI NI SIZE RES STATE TIME %WCPU %CPU COMMAND
9 ? 45 root 152 20 14464K 14464K run 8511:23 1.47 1.47 vxfsd
The OS is 11i (as indicated in the initial thread).
PHCO_32466 is not installed on this server. I have read the issues it addresses, and although this patch is for overall functionality issues with top, it is unlikely that top would be "broken" for a single process (vxfsd daemon) monitoring.
